Effective as of today 05/07/2017 in Next4biz Corp. we certified our organization’s adherence to the Privacy Shield Principles. This was a necessary step to continue guaranteeing our Customers the adequacy of protection for personal data, as stated from U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration (ITA).
What is Privacy Shield Framework?
Privacy Shield Framework consists in a set of data protection requirements and processes that American and European companies need to follow when transferring personal data from the European Union and Switzerland to the United States in support of transatlantic commerce.
Everyday millions of people are working online, produce streams of data worldwide and grow our economies. This agreement supports thousand of companies on both sides of the ocean to ensure their data are transferred ensuring legal certainty.
Major events in privacy protection frameworks
In the past it was disputed that in USA the regulations concerning the protection of privacy data were not meeting the European standards.
As a result of a long process of negotiations, the first framework called Safe Harbor contained the mechanisms under which thousand of companies were allowed to transfer personal data from Europe to United states. This agreement was effective until 2015.
In 2016 the U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Commission reached a new agreement called Privacy Shield, replacing Safe Harbor and regulating the legal aspect of:
- Obligations on companies handling Europeans’ personal data and robust enforcement
- Clear safeguards and transparency obligations on U.S. government access
- Effective protection of EU citizens’ rights with several redress possibilities
As we are certified in Privacy Shield, we believe it provides solid basis to address our commitment to defend citizens’ fundamental right to privacy and data protection.
